Why AI search is different across APAC
Each market has its own mix of AI assistants. ChatGPT leads everywhere it's available, but Gemini is far stronger in parts of North Asia. In September 2026, Gemini sent 29.0% of AI chatbot traffic to websites in South Korea, 29.3% in Hong Kong and 24.7% in Taiwan, against 9.5% in Australia (StatCounter).
| AI chatbot share of referrals, Sept 2026 | ChatGPT | Gemini | Perplexity | Copilot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Australia | 78.2% | 9.5% | 3.2% | 7.4% |
| India | 77.3% | 16.0% | 3.6% | 1.7% |
| Singapore | 77.6% | 14.4% | 4.9% | 1.7% |
| Japan | 74.3% | 16.6% | 1.9% | 6.2% |
| Taiwan | 66.8% | 24.7% | 4.6% | 2.6% |
| South Korea | 64.6% | 29.0% | 3.6% | 2.0% |
| Hong Kong | 51.9% | 29.3% | 13.2% | 5.1% |
In China, the global assistants aren't there at all. OpenAI and Anthropic don't offer ChatGPT or Claude in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau, and Gemini is available in mainland China only through Google Workspace. China has built its own: CNNIC counted 602 million generative AI users at the end of 2025 and over 700 million by mid-2026. QuestMobile put Doubao at 382 million monthly users in May 2026, Qwen at 167 million and DeepSeek at 130 million, while Baidu reported 202 million monthly users for its ERNIE assistant. A brand selling into China needs a separate plan for these platforms.
Local search engines give their own AI answers. In South Korea, where Naver is close behind Google (43.1% of searches against 48.0%), Naver launched AI Briefing in March 2025. In Japan, Yahoo! JAPAN added AI answers to smartphone search in October 2024 and to PC search in August 2025. In China, Baidu says about 70% of its mobile results pages carried AI-generated content by October 2025. These answers draw on their own ecosystems, such as Naver's blogs and cafes, not just the open web.
Google's AI answers cover most of the region, in local languages. Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode are available in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, in Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Chinese, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese among others. Mainland China isn't covered.
Adoption is high, and rising fast. In KPMG and the University of Melbourne's 2025 study of 47 countries, India was joint highest for regular AI use at 92%, and Singapore led advanced economies at 73%, against a global 66%. In Japan, the share of people who have used generative AI rose from 26.7% to 58.8% in a year, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (July 2026).
How we chose
Every AI search optimization agency on this list passed five tests:
- A real APAC footprint. Offices or teams in several Asia-Pacific markets, or deep reach from a regional hub.
- A published GEO service. A dedicated page for GEO, AI search or AI optimization on the agency's own site.
- Coverage of the region's platforms. Languages and engines beyond English-language ChatGPT: local-language work, Google's AI answers in local languages, or China's, Korea's and Japan's own platforms.
- Evidence. Named clients, results, tools, research, awards or published prices.
- A distinct fit. Each agency suits a different kind of company, from Japanese firms going abroad to multinationals entering China.
Every fact about the other nine agencies comes from their own websites, checked on 13 October 2026. Results and claims are their own.
1. GTMLab
Best for: lead-generation businesses across Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, such as hospitals and clinics, hotels and villas, property developers and B2B services, that want AI visibility measured in leads and revenue across several markets.
GTMLab is a growth agency with teams in Jakarta, Hong Kong and New York, run by 100+ senior operators that include ex-founders, Y Combinator alumni and a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree. It has worked with 200+ brands and operated $20M+ in ad spend, for clients that include IHH Healthcare, Lazada and ELSA Speak.
Its AI search optimization service runs on daily decisions rather than a fixed content quota. Each day the team checks what changed for a client's buyer prompts, in English and Bahasa Indonesia, picks the few tasks that drive most of the result, does them wherever AI engines read about the brand, and logs each one with the reason behind it.
What sets it apart
- Built for multi-market lead generation: it tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews, Claude and Copilot, including Gemini's large share in Hong Kong and Perplexity's in Indonesia.
- Tied to revenue: AI referrals are tracked in GA4 on every plan and in your CRM on Growth and Scale, so leads can be compared market by market.
- One team across channels: the same operators run paid media, SEO, landing pages, WhatsApp follow-up and the CRM.
Proof: GTMLab built and runs search for medifly.ai, a medical travel platform for Indonesian patients, with a complete page for each of its 3,167 doctors and 299 hospitals in Bahasa Indonesia and English. Between mid-June and late September 2026, organic clicks grew about 4× and impressions about 5.6×; the case study is candid that there's no AI-citation data yet.
Across the region, its lead engines reached 5,000+ qualified leads in 10 weeks for IHH Healthcare's hospitals in Malaysia, took a Bali villa developer, Palma Islands, to 3 to 5 qualified leads a day across five international markets, and took IKIGAI's Hong Kong yoga studios to 63× return on ad spend. Those ran on paid media rather than AI search; they're the lead systems AI search feeds.
Pricing and guarantee: Essential at $499 a month (30 logged tasks, 40 prompts across 3 AI engines), Growth at $999 (70 tasks, 90 prompts, 4 engines) and Scale at $1,999 (140 tasks, 150 prompts, 5 engines, re-run daily). Plans start on a six-month term, then run month to month; in Jakarta, from IDR 9 million a month. GTMLab guarantees a number of prompts where you're named every quarter; miss it and you don't pay.
Less suited to: brands that need GEO in mainland China, Japan or Korea, on Doubao, Baidu, Naver or Yahoo! JAPAN. The Egg, AsiaPac Group and AUN Consulting are built for that.

Its AI search optimization runs on its own UpStory platform, which monitors share of mention and sentiment across ChatGPT, Doubao, Perplexity, DeepSeek and Google's AI Overviews. It builds FAQ hubs, entity schema and topic clusters, and does platform-specific work for Baidu, Naver, Yahoo! and WeChat.

Archetype's APAC network has offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Beijing, Sydney, Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Its GEO work starts with a visibility audit of test prompts benchmarked against competitors, then cleans up how the brand is described across platforms and knowledge graphs, builds AI-ready content, aligns PR to the categories it wants to own, keeps testing, and trains in-house teams with playbooks.
- Worth knowing: it runs an APAC AI and transformation practice and is listed in the partner directory of Profound, the AI visibility platform. Its APAC case studies, which aren't GEO work, include DHL, Prudential, Standard Chartered and Shopify.

What an APAC GEO plan should cover
Whichever generative engine optimization agency you choose, a regional plan should:
- Map the engines market by market. ChatGPT and Google's AI answers almost everywhere; Gemini more in Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan; Naver in Korea; Yahoo! JAPAN in Japan; Doubao, DeepSeek, Qwen and Baidu in mainland China.
- Write in the local language, not just translate. AI answers in Japanese, Korean or Chinese can name different businesses from the English answer to the same question.
- Earn presence on each market's trusted sources. Naver's blogs and cafes in Korea, local media and directories elsewhere, and Chinese platforms such as Xiaohongshu for China.
- Keep facts consistent across markets. One brand, one set of facts, in every language: names, addresses, prices, services.
- Measure per market. Track AI visibility and AI-sourced leads country by country, so you can see where the work pays.

Frequently asked questions
Which AI platforms matter in APAC?
ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode matter in almost every market. Gemini is unusually strong in South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Korea also has Naver's AI Briefing, Japan has Yahoo! JAPAN's AI answers, and mainland China has its own: Doubao, Qwen, DeepSeek and Baidu's ERNIE, since ChatGPT and Claude aren't offered there.
Is ChatGPT available in China and Hong Kong?
No. OpenAI doesn't offer ChatGPT in mainland China, Hong Kong or Macau, and Anthropic doesn't offer Claude there either. People in Hong Kong still reach ChatGPT through VPNs, and it sends more AI traffic to Hong Kong websites than any other assistant. In mainland China, the local assistants dominate.
How much does a GEO agency in APAC cost?
Published prices on this list include GTMLab from $499 a month, Mercury Technology Solution from HK$3,900 a month and AUN Consulting from ¥100,000 a month for research or ¥400,000 for SEO with AIO. Regional networks such as The Egg, Jellyfish and Archetype quote per project.
Do I need a separate GEO plan for each market?
Usually, yes. The engines, languages and trusted sources differ by market, so a plan built for ChatGPT in English won't reach Naver users in Korea or Doubao users in China. A good regional agency runs one strategy with market-by-market execution and reporting.
Can one agency cover all of Asia-Pacific?
A few come close: AsiaPac Group has 14 offices in 11 markets, and The Egg covers Greater China, Japan, Korea and Singapore. Most agencies are strong in a part of the region, so many brands pair a regional lead agency with local specialists where they need depth.
How long does GEO take across several markets?
Technical fixes and key pages can start showing in AI answers within weeks in each market. Being named consistently takes months, and longer in markets where you're building presence on local platforms from scratch. Plan in quarters, market by market.
See where you stand first
Before you speak to any GEO marketing agency, see what AI says about your business today. GTMLab's AI visibility check asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews and Claude what a customer in your city would ask, then shows who they name instead of you, where they got their facts, what to fix first, and how fast your site loads on a phone. It takes about a minute, with no sign-up for the first read. Plans are on the pricing page.
